Javier Baez drove in five runs with a two-run double and a three-run homer and Kyle Schwarber and Ian Happ also homered for the Chicago Cubs on Saturday night as they scored six runs in the final two innings to defeat the host San Diego Padres 11-6.

With the win, the Cubs moved into sole possession of the National League Central lead for the first time since June 3.

The Cubs were already leading 3-2 when Baez hit his double in the fifth off Padres starter Luis Perdomo. He added his 19th homer of the season in the ninth off right-handed reliever Phil Hughes.

Schwarber's two-run homer off Perdomo put the Cubs ahead to stay 3-2 in the fourth. It was Schwarber's 18th of the season.

Happ's second-inning homer off Perdomo, his 11th of the season, was the 2,000th in the history of Petco Park, which opened in 2004. The Cubs also got a two-run double from Victor Caratini to cap a three-run eighth.

The Cubs' second straight win over the Padres, coupled with Milwaukee's five straight losses, moved Chicago into the division lead for only the third day of the 2018 season.

San Diego has lost five of the first six games of a seven-game homestand going into the All-Star break. The Dodgers earlier this week won three of four at Petco Park to move into first in the National League West at the time.

Right-hander Kyle Hendricks (6-8) held the Padres to two runs on five hits with three strikeouts over five innings to get the win. Perdomo (1-4) took the loss, giving up five runs on seven hits and two walks with six strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings.

The Padres' first four runs came on a pair of two-run homers by Eric Hosmer and Hunter Renfroe.

Hosmer's 10th homer of the season followed a first-inning single by Carlos Asuaje off Hendricks to give the Padres a 2-0 lead. Hosmer's homer snapped an 0-for-16 streak, and he was 4-for-54 since June 30 with two doubles, a walk, three RBIs and two runs scored with 17 strikeouts.

Renfroe brought the Padres to within a run in the seventh when he followed a walk to catcher A.J. Ellis with his sixth homer of the season -- and his second pinch-hit homer -- with a drive to center off left-hander Randy Rosario.
