Yordan Alvarez homered in his second career plate appearance to support a strong outing from veteran left-hander Wade Miley as the Houston Astros claimed the rubber match of their three-game series with the Baltimore Orioles with a 4-0 victory on Sunday at Minute Maid Park.

Alvarez, the Astros' third-ranked prospect according to MLB Pipeline, broke a scoreless tie with his two-run, opposite-field homer off Orioles starter Dylan Bundy (3-7) with two outs in the fourth inning.

Bundy opened that frame with strikeouts of Alex Bregman and Josh Reddick before surrendering a single to Yuli Gurriel. Alvarez followed his Cuban countryman with a 413-foot blast to left-center field, punctuating his big-league debut while lifting Houston to a 2-0 lead.

Alvarez slugged 23 home runs and produced 71 RBIs and a 1.184 OPS over 56 games with Triple-A Round Rock prior to his promotion. He was ranked 23rd overall among all prospects.

Reddick added an RBI single in the sixth that scored Derek Fisher and provided Miley (6-3) a bit more cushion. That insurance tally came in handy when Miley loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the seventh before yielding the mound to right-hander Ryan Pressly, who needed just seven pitches to strand the bases loaded and preserve the shutout.

Miley had faced the minimum over the previous three innings before departing in the seventh and completed his afternoon having allowed six hits and two walks while recording five strikeouts over six-plus innings.

Roberto Osuna capped the combined six-hit shutout with his 17th save. The Astros improved to 10-0-1 over their last 11 series while Baltimore dropped its fifth consecutive rubber match. The Orioles have lost the finale in eight successive series and fell to 0-12-1 over their last 13 series.

Bundy had allowed just one baserunner prior to the Gurriel single in the fourth, issuing a two-out walk to Myles Straw in the bottom of the third. Bundy allowed four hits and fanned six while working six innings. It marked the fourth consecutive outing where Bundy has surrendered three runs, though only two were earned on Sunday.

Gurriel added a sacrifice fly in the eighth off right-hander Evan Phillips that scored Bregman.
