Nick Cousins scored in the first round of a shootout, and Antti Raanta made it stand up by stopping all three Anaheim attempts to give the visiting Arizona Coyotes their first win of the season, 3-2 over the Ducks on Wednesday night.

Dylan Strome and Brad Richardson scored goals for Arizona. Raanta made 23 saves through regulation and overtime.

Cousins beat John Gibson inside the left post after Raanta started the shootout with a pad save on Rickard Rakell. Raanta then made a pad save to stop Troy Terry's wrist shot and, after Gibson made a glove save on a Clayton Keller try, the Coyotes goalie sealed the win with a save on a Jakob Silfverberg wrist shot.

Ryan Kesler and Ben Street scored goals for Anaheim. Gibson, who stopped 41 shots in a 1-0 win over the Coyotes on Saturday night in Glendale, Ariz., finished with 37 saves.

Kesler, making his season debut after sitting out the preseason and missing 38 games in 2017-18 dealing with complications from hip surgery, needed only 5:52 to give the Ducks a 1-0 lead. He jammed in his third try in front of the net inside the right post and past Raanta's skate.

Strome tied it on a power-play goal with 2:27 left in the first period, firing in a shot from the left dot through Gibson's pads. It was the first goal of the season for Arizona after 86 shots and 137 minutes and 33 seconds of action.

Richardson gave the Coyotes a 2-1 lead early in the second period with a short-handed goal, tapping a crossing pass from Michael Grabner into the left side of the net at the end of a two-on-one break.

Street tied it at the 14:39 mark of the middle period when he fired a wrist shot from a tough angle to the right side of the goal over Raanta's left shoulder. It was the first NHL goal in 39 career games for the 31-year-old center.
